Nakuru is a very good stop and a poor destination. Which of those it is for you depends on one question.
The one question
Are you driving to the Masai Mara, or flying?
Driving: Nakuru earns its night comfortably. It turns a brutal five-to-six-hour day into two easy ones and adds rhino, fever trees and a landscape you will not otherwise see.
Flying: skip it. The detour costs you a day and gives you animals you can see better elsewhere.

How long once you are there
One night. The park is small and fenced; an afternoon drive on arrival and a morning drive before you leave covers it properly.
Two nights only if you are also doing Naivasha, Hell’s Gate or Elmenteita — in which case base yourself once and day-trip rather than moving hotels.
Why we will talk you out of it
Because a night at Nakuru that should have been a night in the Mara is a worse trip, and you would not thank us for the extra booking.
